Electrosteel Steels Limited (ESL) was originally incorporated as Electrosteel Integrated Limited on December 20th, 2006 as a Public Limited Company which commenced its business on January 5th, 2007. The company has set up an Integrated Greenfield Steel Plant is set up near Siyaljori village, in the Bokaro district of Jharkhand.
In June 2018, Vedanta Limited acquired the Management Control of the Electrosteel Steels Limited under the Corporate Insolvency Resolution Process (CIRP) and has constituted the new Board of Directors to look after the steel business operations.
ESL has set up 2.51 Million Ton Per Annum (MTPA) planned capacity integrated Steel Plant which is currently commissioned at 1.5 MTPA capacity. This integrated facility includes a Sinter Plant, Coke Oven, Blast Furnace, Basic Oxygen Furnace, Billet Caster, Wire Rod Mill, Bar Mill, DI Pipes Plant and Power Plant.
Vedanta is looking forward to expand its steel business operations under Electrosteel Steels Limited and is planning to setup a new steel making plant in Jharkhand to increase the current steel production capacity from 1.5 MPTA to 7 MTPA in the next few years.
At present the Company's product range includes Pig Iron, Billets, TMT Bars, Wire Rods and Ductile Iron Pipes.
Electrosteel Steels Limited had been classified as an Integrated Steel Producer by The Joint Plant Committee (JPC), Ministry of Steel, Government of India vide their Notification Dated: 12th February, 2016.

Electrosteel ventured into sustainable community-based CSR programme from 2007 in Bokaro and does pursue a systematic approach to address the issue of health, education, social security, livelihood opportunity and environmental management in order to achieve continuous performance improvement. To reinforce its value of engagement with community and in compliance to its commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility, Electrosteel handholds the villagers to build up their own strengths and make them realize their potential.
The prime objective of the organization is to identify the socio-economic developmental gaps existing in the operational area of ESL India and implement tailored solutions in order to address them effectively. The Green Field Project of Company puts continuous effort and intervention in the nearby villages under the Social Responsibility delivery model for the upliftment of the poor and the marginalized section of the society. Various initiatives have been taken into consideration to contribute an increase in the HUMAN DEVELOPMENT INDEX of the region. ESL social and economic development initiatives are carried out by various partners and by the company and its CSR teams.

ESL’s CSR policy focuses on development sectors such as Children’s well-being & education; women’s empowerment; health care; drinking water & sanitation; agriculture & animal husbandry; skilling the youth for new opportunities; environment protection & restoration; sports & culture; development of community infrastructure; and participate in programs of national importance including but not limited to disaster mitigation, rescue, relief & rehabilitation. The various CSR activities undertaken would have 1-year rolling plan and a 5-year perspective plan directed towards integrated development of the community.

Our CSR welfare programs have a micro or macro perspective depending on the local need identified as well as scope of coverage vis-à-vis target groups and beneficiaries. The focus is on the overall socio-economic development of the area through interventions in health, education, skills and capacity building trainings and through identifying employment and sustainable livelihood opportunities. ESL teams conduct these initiatives and manage weekly events for direct engagement and dialogue with community members. This helps in building mutual trust among the communities that surround us.
